Event Description:
Have you ever read a review of an expensive wine then bought it and wondered what all the fuss was about? Magazine reviews of wines we can’t find or can’t afford don’t help much –wine consumers need an advocate, and you have more than 30 of them in the Best in Glass Wine Challenge. This essential part of the Miami Wine & Food Festival actually takes place three months before the Festival’s popular dinners in April. In January, a group of South Florida’s top sommeliers and restaurant wine managers get together to taste several hundred wines with one aim - to choose wines that are “best in glass.” In other words, wines that shine in the real world, wines their customers (that means us!) will like. In two days of judging, the sommeliers award medals to deserving wines and then put their money where their palates are: they will feature medal winning wines by the glass in their restaurants during the month leading up to the Miami Wine & Food Festival. And we will feature medal-winning wines at the Festival dinners in April as well.
Among the judges, we have sommeliers from:
- The Ritz-Carlton, Ft. Lauderdale
- Market 17, Ft. Lauderdale
- The Grateful Palate, Ft. Lauderdale
- Hollywood Prime at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa, Hollywood
- The Dutch, Miami
- Azul at the Mandarin Oriental, Miami
- Red The Steakhouse, Miami Beach
- Meat Market, Miami Beach
